Epson are no new comers to the multifunction inkjet market and they have always offered high spec machines with affordable price tags, but their running costs have left something to be desired. Their latest offering the Stylus SX400 stays true to this pattern but it does have an advantage over it competitors in terms of it running costs. The SX400 uses an ink system that consists of four separate printer ink cartridges which makes it far more comical when it comes to replacing the ink cartridges when only one colour has run out as the remaining ink is not wasted. A set of Epson SX400 ink cartridges costs around £30 but if your want real value for money there are compatibles available for £15 and they print the same amount as the genuine Epson inks. The SX400 is basically there machines on in one, it offer the functionally of a printer, scanner and photo copier as well as offering addition features like direct printing from a memory card thanks to the memory card reader and built-in LCD screen. The print quality of the SX400 is surprisingly good for all types of documents, its photo prints are particularly good with quality close to that from a professional photo lab. The device itself it very compact and it hard to believe it has a fully functional A4 scanner built in to it, the SX400 mages this because the scanner is a slim line design, but this doesn’t effect it performance in a negative way however because it produced result just as good as a full size device. The photo copier makes use of the same A4 scanner and produces great copier with good speed and its easy to function.
